Memory, digestion, sense of smell, long life

Fascinating info on ROSEMARY – easy to use and wonderful long-term effects. Read the full Mercola article here.

  • Eat a small amount of organic rosemary leaves every day – in salads or veggies
  • Crumble the spikey leaves and put in a small bottle of olive oil and use on salads
  • “Sniff” the essential oil every day. Make sure you use a high-quality organic brand. Breathe in through one nostril, holding the bottle against your nose; hold your breath and then slowly release through your mouth. Repeat with the other nostril. Also sniff vigorously, holding the bottle to alternate nostrils. May improve your sense of smell (and taste) when you breathe the oil fumes into the sinus¬†cavity every day. May also improve your memory.
  • Use the essential oil (or your own home-made rosemary oil) on your hair/scalp. Healthy for hair – also for the brain. With brain in mind, massage¬†a drop of rosemary oil all across your forehead and a drop on the stem of your neck.

LOSING YOUR SENSE OF SMELL is associated with later experiencing the onset of dementia / Alzheimer’s. Who knows – maybe improving your sense of smell will have a reverse or containment effect on brain deterioration… It costs a few pennies, it’s easy – worth giving it a try.

Guide to antioxidants

A friend just sent me this link to the “ultimate guide to antioxidants” – an in-depth article by Dr Mercola where he talks about the different types of antioxidants, the beneficial effect, and the FOODS that contain them, etc. (That last bit is the piece that interests me most.)

Creating tick-free zones

The Tick-Borne Disease Alliance recommends creating areas in your yard that are free from ticks.

The TBDA TICKOFF list:

  • Tidy up by removing leaves, branches and debris, which create hiding places for ticks and their hosts.
  • Install 3-foot wide gravel or wood chip barriers along the edges of stone walls, ornamental gardens and woodlot perimeters.
  • Create gravel or wood chip pathways linking the house to frequently used outside areas.
  • Keep woodpiles and bird feeders far away from the home as they attract rodents which ticks feed on.
  • Open up areas to direct sunlight and keep lawns cut short to reduce the humid environment that ticks thrive in.
  • Form play and recreational areas at least 10 feet away from wooded edges; place playsets on wood chip beds and in sunny areas.
  • Fully use patio and non-grass or non-vegetative areas as much as possible.

TBDA recommends a chemical tick repellant for your clothing when outside… You might try Dr Schulze’s non-toxic herbal products BUG BARRIER and BUG BLOCK to see whether ticks dislike them. You could also contact Dr Schulze’s office (herbdoc.com – customer support) to get their advice.

Liver Meridian Ahaa

I did a 5-day Liver Detox last week and am noticing a radical shift in the way my day flows, getting a wider variety of things done without planning or disciplining myself or making To Do lists. Can this really be attributed to a Liver Detox?

Yes!

In Acupuncture, the Liver Meridian is the Planner. It’s the general of the army – with the ability, when healthy and strong, of

  • anticipating what is needed
  • making quick assessments
  • seeing the larger picture as well as filling in the details
  • allowing you to organize your life in a smooth way
  • flowing around obstacles
  • knowing the right amount of time for each task
  • creating strategies for success and handling the details with ease so you achieve your goals

Liver Detox

If you’ve never heard of Dr Schulze and his HerbDoc.com website, it’s time to go visit! His super-powerful herbal remedies and detox programs really work, according to those who use them.

I just did the 5-Day Liver Detox. It was easy – plenty to eat and/or drink, no hunger at any time – and I particularly enjoyed getting back onto carrot/beet juice after a very long time. (The juices are optional, not required.)

You can choose the type of Liver Detox you do – depending on whether you normally eat a junk food diet, a vegetarian diet, or whatever. I did the “Advanced” Detox because I wanted to get the maximum out of the Detox. Read more…
