Inadvertently poisoning honey bees?

A study (reported in ABC News) finds that more than half the plants available at Lowe’s, Home Depot and Walmart are treated as seeds with a pesticide that is suspected of causing the death of honey bees.

And it gets worse. Neonics are banned or “on hold” for 2 years in European countries – but the EPA (US) is stalling. They suggest not using neonics (in all common garden pesticide products) “around bees.” Hallo?!

Beepocalypse? Monsanto? A long list of foods we will lose if bees die out

Oh dear. Time to go organic. Time to grow from organic seeds. Time to say NO to neonic usage at Lowe’s, HD and Walmart, for a start.

Creating tick-free zones

The Tick-Borne Disease Alliance recommends creating areas in your yard that are free from ticks.

  • Tidy up by removing leaves, branches and debris, which create hiding places for ticks and their hosts.
  • Install 3-foot wide gravel or wood chip barriers along the edges of stone walls, ornamental gardens and woodlot perimeters.
  • Create gravel or wood chip pathways linking the house to frequently used outside areas.
  • Keep woodpiles and bird feeders far away from the home as they attract rodents which ticks feed on.
  • Open up areas to direct sunlight and keep lawns cut short to reduce the humid environment that ticks thrive in.
  • Form play and recreational areas at least 10 feet away from wooded edges; place playsets on wood chip beds and in sunny areas.
  • Fully use patio and non-grass or non-vegetative areas as much as possible.

TBDA recommends a chemical tick repellant for your clothing when outside… You might try Dr Schulze’s non-toxic herbal products BUG BARRIER and BUG BLOCK to see whether ticks dislike them. You could also contact Dr Schulze’s office ( – customer support) to get their advice.

Liver Meridian Ahaa

I did a 5-day Liver Detox last week and am noticing a radical shift in the way my day flows, getting a wider variety of things done without planning or disciplining myself or making To Do lists. Can this really be attributed to a Liver Detox?

In Acupuncture, the Liver Meridian is the Planner. It’s the general of the army – with the ability, when healthy and strong, of

  • anticipating what is needed
  • making quick assessments
  • seeing the larger picture as well as filling in the details
  • allowing you to organize your life in a smooth way
  • flowing around obstacles
  • knowing the right amount of time for each task
  • creating strategies for success and handling the details with ease so you achieve your goals

The story of building Ben’s house

My name is Ben Norton. This is my tiny house story. A neighbor of mine was all excited about [the Tiny House] blog and showed me lots of really cool tiny houses that people have built. I was hooked. I just said, “That’s what I’m going to do,” and I just started buying materials as I had money. I don’t think anyone really thought I was serious because I was eleven years old at the time.

So begins Ben’s story of how he built, at age 11-12, a house for himself, 12′ x 20′, with the help of motley friends of all ages. His well-written story is finished at the end of the summer – age 12! And his tiny house is waiting for next summer when he has a break from school and can insert windows and work on the interior.

Liver Detox

If you’ve never heard of Dr Schulze and his website, it’s time to go visit! His super-powerful herbal remedies and detox programs really work, according to those who use them.

I just did the 5-Day Liver Detox. It was easy – plenty to eat and/or drink, no hunger at any time – and I particularly enjoyed getting back onto carrot/beet juice after a very long time. (The juices are optional, not required.)

You can choose the type of Liver Detox you do – depending on whether you normally eat a junk food diet, a vegetarian diet, or whatever. I did the “Advanced” Detox because I wanted to get the maximum out of the Detox. Read more…

Love on Death Row

If you haven’t read this extraordinary story of persistence, positivity and release, you might like to read this account of two strangers connecting by mail, falling in love and successfully working towards freedom – 20 years behind bars, 10 in solitary confinement, for a crime that was proved he did not commit.

“Cure” for back pains

A client last week shared that she is experiencing extreme pain in her sitz bones, so she can’t sit for long at all – and she works full time in an office, so imagine what that does for her.

It came up in her session that she needs to do the Foundation movements developed by Dr Eric Goodman and Peter Park, an athletics coach. You can see these demonstrated at youtube, starting with the “Pre-Founder” movement before going on to the Foundation movements. Even watching them feels good! And doing them for a few minutes may bring some great results.

My client wrote today to say: Read more…
